Destination DC (DDC), the official destination marketing organization for Washington, DC, and the District̢۪s Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) are hosting the second annual Sustainability Summit today, aiming to shape a more sustainable future for the nation̢۪s capital. The event, taking place at the Embassy of France, brings together leaders from tourism, hospitality, government, and the private sector to exchange best practices, highlight local innovations, and strengthen partnerships.
The 2025 District Sustainability Awards, presented by DOEE, honor local businesses, organizations, and individuals dedicated to sustainability, contributing to a greener, healthier, and more resilient city for residents, visitors, and future generations.
The event is designed to educate and empower industry professionals, reinforcing that sustainability is a shared responsibility and collective opportunity. By aligning tourism with environmental progress, DC continues to lead as a forward-thinking, globally-minded destination.
DDC launched the Sustainability District initiative in 2023, creating a platform for businesses and suppliers in the hospitality sector committed to promoting sustainability in Washington, DC. Currently, 68 members are part of this program.
The event also marked the launch of DDC's 2025 Global Destination Sustainability-Index performance efforts, aiming to surpass last year's achievements and maintain its position as the top sustainable destination in the U.S.
