Korean Air, South Korea's flagship carrier, has launched an extensive brand transformation, marking the first major update to its visual identity in over four decades. This significant redesign, revealed at a special event at Seoul Gimpo International Airport, includes a refreshed aircraft livery, a completely reworked dining experience, and improved cabin amenities, all aimed at positioning the airline as a modern leader in the competitive aviation industry.
The redesign is not limited to the airline's visual identity; the integration of Asiana Airlines will see both carriers adopting this new branding by January 2027. While Asiana continues to operate independently until then, Korean Air will begin the repainting process across its fleet, with each aircraft requiring about two weeks for the full transformation.
First-class and Prestige business class passengers will enjoy an enhanced fine-dining experience, featuring new porcelain tableware from Bernardaud, updated glassware, and meticulous crew training to ensure the highest standards of service. With the introduction of a six-course meal, down from the previous nine-course format, passengers will begin their meal with amuse bouche, followed by soup, salad, a main course, cheese, and dessert, offering a refined dining experience.
Korean Air is also reintroducing kimchi across all cabin classes, after initially hesitating due to concerns about its aroma in the confined space of an aircraft. Alongside kimchi, passengers will now have access to more contemporary options like walnut cranberry sandwiches and smoked salmon open-face sandwiches, catering to travelers seeking lighter fare during long-haul flights.
Along with the revamped dining experience, Korean Air is making significant upgrades to its cabin offerings. The airline is introducing its Prestige Suites 2.0 on select routes, which promise to provide a more spacious and luxurious environment for business and first-class travelers. This enhanced cabin service includes new amenity kits featuring premium fragrances, signature bedding from Frette, and custom pajamas for first-class passengers.
The new service structure also includes detailed plating guides for the cabin crew, ensuring that every dish is presented to exacting standards. Additionally, flight attendants are receiving comprehensive training to adapt to the updated service approach, which requires more preparation time for items like amuse bouche, which can take up to 10 minutes to prepare perfectly.
Korean Air is also investing in its global network of airport lounges, starting with major hubs like Seoul Incheon, Los Angeles, and New York JFK. These redesigned lounges will feature a variety of upgraded amenities, including live cooking stations, cooked-to-order noodle bars, and fresh bakery items such as croissants, pizza, and desserts. The first redesigned lounge will open in August 2025, with additional lounges set to be completed by 2026.
The lounge upgrades will also include expanded spaces in Los Angeles and New York JFK, with both airports expected to double the size of their existing lounges by 2026. These changes are aimed at offering travelers a more comfortable and enjoyable pre-flight experience.
Flight passengers are participating in the new viral trend, "airport theory," with flyers arriving at their gates 15 minutes before their flights depart. A travel expert weighs in.
