Heydar Aliyev International Airport has officially opened its renovated Runway 17/35 after a major refurbishment project that started in January. The reconstruction involved a full replacement of the runway's asphalt concrete pavement, an upgrade of the instrument landing system (ILS), improvements to drainage systems, and the repair of existing taxiways along with the addition of three new ones.
The runway now spans 3,200 meters in length and 60 meters in width, while the total length of the repaired and newly built taxiways measures 4,332 meters with a width of 44 meters.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of airport services, the project was completed swiftly, adhering to regulatory and aviation standards. The upgraded runway meets all international safety requirements and continues to accommodate all types of aircraft. Despite the scale of the reconstruction, flight operations at Baku Airport remained uninterrupted throughout the process.
