Revenue services for Brussels‘ new tram route 10 officially commenced on September 23, following a grand inauguration on September 21 attended by King Philippe.
This 5.5 km extension, authorized in 2019, serves the northern suburb of Neder-over-Heembeek and has been under construction for the past two years.
Tram route 10 operates through the north-south premetro tunnel, terminating at Churchill.
It replaces the former route 3, whose number is set to be reassigned to a forthcoming automated metro line, currently under construction.
Once this new metro line is operational, tram route 10 will be shortened to Rogier.
In the northwestern part of the city, route 3's section between Hembeek and Esplanade has been replaced by the newly established tram route 35.
This route shares tracks with route 7 until Meiser and then extends to Bienfaiteurs in the eastern suburbs.
Coinciding with the opening of route 10, STIB, Brussels' public transport operator, has revamped several local bus routes.
Additionally, tram route 9, located in the northwestern suburbs of Brussels, has been extended from Simonis to Groot-Bijgaarden, replacing route 19, which was shortened to Simons on July 6.
With these enhancements, Brussels continues to improve its public transportation network, offering greater accessibility and convenience for commuters across the city.
