According to the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), 2.3 million people embarked on a cruise in 2023, a significant increase from 1.7 million in 2022. With expanding itineraries and new ports of call worldwide, cruise travel is more appealing than ever.
The Arabian Gulf has emerged as a prominent cruise destination, attracting travelers with its blend of ancient cultures, striking architecture, and vibrant souks. Countries like the UAE and Saudi Arabia have invested heavily in tourism infrastructure, building modern cruise terminals, private islands, and world-class ports to cater to international cruise lines.
For instance, Saudi Arabia has ambitious plans to attract 1.3 million cruise travelers annually by 2035. From winter 2025, Celestyal Cruises will introduce short voyages aboard the Celestyal Discovery, visiting iconic locations such as Abu Dhabi, Doha, and Sir Bani Yas Island. For a longer adventure, the Celestyal Journey offers a seven-night Desert Days itinerary exploring the Arabian Gulf.
