Vans carrying members of the press who were traveling as part of Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim wall's motorcade we're involved in a crash on Monday afternoon.
Journalists traveling with the press pool reported that the incident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on Monday while Walz was traveling to a campaign event in Milwaukee.
A staff member in one of the vans is reportedly suffered a broken arm while additional individuals are being treated for minor injuries. Journalists reported that they were violently thrown forward when one van was hit by another, which was then hit from behind by another vehicle.
The vehicle in which Walz, his wife and U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI) was not involved in the crash, and the vice presidential nominee proceeded to the event without incident.
The incident comes just days after Vice President Kamala Harris' motorcade was involved in a serious crash ahead of a Georgia Campaign event.
The Secret Service explained that officers with the Savannah Police Department were traveling as part of the duo's security detail when one of its officers suffered "serious injuries" and fell down with his bike, officials said.
In a separate statement, the Savannah Police Department described the crash as a "single-vehicle accident" that occurred around 7 p.m. Eastern time and identified the victim as Savannah Police Corporal David Bates. Gov. Walz was in a tour bus at the time of the accident. "The Savannah Police Department is supporting Corporal Bates and his family as he begins his recovery from injuries sustained in this vehicle accident," SPD Chief Lenny B. Gunther said in the statement.
