The South Australian government has unveiled designs for the expansion of Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) by Silver Thomas Hanley and ARM Architecture.
The proposed seven-storey Acute Services Building, also to be known as FMC Tower, will include 17,000 square metres of new built area and 3,000 square metres of refurbished area that will house a 32-bed adult in-patient unit, 18-same-day bed Medical Day Unit, 16-bed intensive care unit, four new operating theatres, a new Day of Surgery Admissions area, and a dedicated floor for an eye surgery clinic.
"This impressive Tower is a key plank of the $498 million jointly funded project by the State and Federal governments to inject an extra 160 beds across Flinders and the Repat," said SA health minister Chris Picton.
Premier Peter Malinauskas added, "The construction of the new Flinders Medical Centre Tower will bring high-quality health services to Adelaide's south."
Early works will begin in April 2024, and completion is expected by 2028.
The government also announced that 20 new fast-tracked patient beds at Flinders Medical Centre are expected to open in May 2024.
The 2025 Jubilee will bring tourists to the Vatican, Rome and Italy to celebrate the Catholic tradition of patrons asking for forgiveness of sins. Hope will be a central theme.
