Me and You lighting collection

What happens when a Melbourne lighting powerhouse joins forces with a design powerhouse? This. Volker Haug Studio and Flack Studio have created a lighting collection that speaks to the importance of collaboration, but also to the interplay of light and space - an important factor that both studios believe is inherent to the design process. The collaboration was born from a "minor calamity" when a glass fitting of Flack Studio's broke and Volker came and saved the day. The incident led to this series.

Six new pieces are included in the collection, but my favourite is the Me, Myself and I wall light, cast in brass. Two reasons: firstly, the materiality is stunning and the grid-like characteristics and linear silhouette is so visually arresting. Secondly, 'Me, Myself and I' is one of my favourite Beyonce songs, and I'm hoping it was playing in the studio when this piece was being conceived. On another note, I've deliberately omitted the photos of the other special pieces so you can give their website some traffic and discover them yourself.

Minotti's 2024 collection

Minotti's 2024 collection has arrived on Australian shores at Dedece and, as always, exemplifies the brand's Italian craftsmanship and revered aesthetic. There are many standouts in the collection - the Pilotis console and Keel side table are exceptional - but I keep returning to the Emmi armchair. Italian designer Hannes Peer, who crafted several pieces in the 2024 collection, was inspired by the generous designs of the late 1970s. Emmi features elegant rounded legs in wood, lacquer or leather and a nest-like seat.

Wallace lamp by Cordon Salon

I'm a big fan of Oigall Projects in Fitzroy - their exhibitions are always of an excellent calibre, uncovering new talent and showcasing the established. Cordon Salon, the name of Melbourne-based multidisciplinary artist, designer and curator Ella Saddington's studio, will have a forthcoming exhibition at Oigall titled Garniture. This lamp, the Wallace lamp, is a prelude to the exhibition and is the culmination of Ella's multi-year exploration into Western European plate armour and celebrates past techniques in a present context. The lamp comprises of six stainless steel plates joined by dome rivets, polished to a mirror finish and is, quite simply, an instant classic.

The Edition bed by Zenn Design and AKI Design

Furniture designers Zenn Design has partnered with AKI Design to create three new beds influenced by European architecture. The three designs offer customisation, with a preselected range of fabrics by AKI. I love "The Edition III" most, with its stepped-back curved design that honours its Milanese architecture influences. Simple and sophisticated.

Denver and Liely wine glasses

Party season has kicked off, and the glassware has come out. Denver & Liely's new wine glass is exceptional, not just for its design but its groundbreaking function. Each glass is made by hand and features "fins" at the bottom of the glass, inspired by the shape and structure of a turbine engine. These fins achieve an unmatched aeration when the glass is swirled and, remarkably, can emulate the effect of ageing a wine by up to four years. Co-founder Denver Cramer, whose background is in product design and mechanical engineering, worked on the design for eight years and it shows. I'm no sommelier, but one sip from this glass and I can tell something special has been achieved.
