The 2024 Dezeen Awards is now accepting entries for the seventh edition of its annual awards program. In 2023, the program attracted more than 4,800 entries from 94 countries. Seven architecture projects and six interior projects from Australia made it through to the shortlist, resulting in three Australian projects being awarded or highly commended.
Nightingale Village, by Hayball and Breathe and Architecture Architecture and Austin Maynard Architects and Clare Cousins Architects and Kennedy Nolan, was awarded Housing Project of the Year and Sustainable Building of the Year, while the Sydney Modern Gallery Shop by Akin Atelier received the Retail Interior (Small) of the Year award. Bundanon Art Museum by Kerstin Thompson Architects was highly commended for Cultural Project of the Year.
In 2024, there are 41 project categories spanning the wider classifications of architecture, interiors, design and sustainability. The winners of the 41 categories will vie for the opportunity to be named one of four overall project of the year winners.
Three new awards have been introduced as part of the 2024 program, including landscape and urban design, surface design and textile design. In 2023, six Designers of the Year awards were also launched to honour leading and emerging professionals within the architecture, interiors and design industries. In 2024, the Designers of the Year will be nominated by the public, and the jury will then select the recipients from the nominated pool.
All entries will be scored based on three fundamental principles: beautiful, innovative and beneficial. The head of the Dezeen Awards, Claire Barrett, said "We will search for exceptional projects around the world - incredible buildings, stunning interiors and products that make a difference, as well as those that show both innovation and commitment to the challenges of the climate crisis."
The awards jury will be announced in the upcoming weeks. Entries can be submitted until 6 June.
