Tampa International Airport (TPA) has revealed exciting new renderings for its much-anticipated Airside D expansion, offering a sneak peek into the future of air travel at one of Florida̢۪s busiest airports. The updated images were presented during the December Hillsborough County Aviation Authority Board of Directors meeting and highlight the vision for a cutting-edge, 16-gate terminal that is currently 30% into its design phase.
The renderings provide an enhanced view of the planned terminal, offering travelers a clearer understanding of what to expect when the project is completed. While the design is still in progress, these visuals provide valuable insights into the amenities and features that will define the new Airside D. The final design is set to be completed by the end of 2025, with construction set to begin in December 2024.
The updated renderings spotlight several key design elements planned for Airside D, showcasing both aesthetic appeal and functionality:
In a significant step forward, the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority Board approved a $91 million enabling contract to begin preparatory work for the project. This will fund essential site preparation, including security fencing, concrete removal, contractor offices, and utility installation, which will set the stage for the full-scale construction of the terminal.
The groundbreaking for Airside D is scheduled for December 18, with an overall project cost estimated at $1.5 billion. The new terminal will play a critical role in handling the growing demand for air travel in the region, which currently serves approximately 25 million passengers annually. By 2037, Airside D is expected to help TPA accommodate up to 35 million passengers each year.
