At Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, nearly 90 flights were delayed, and more than two dozen were cancelled early in the day, FlightAware reported.
Similar disruptions were noted at Dallas Love Field and Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Brian Hurley, a meteorologist with the NWS Weather Prediction Center, warned of potential tornadoes but emphasized the primary risks of high winds and hail.
The storm system is predicted to move into southern Arkansas and parts of Louisiana after nightfall, posing a heightened risk for travellers.
The highest risk zone extends east of Dallas, covering areas between Houston and portions of southern Arkansas, as well as western and northern Louisiana, meteorologists said.
Travellers are urged to stay updated on weather alerts and exercise caution.
