In addition to its enchanting attractions, Mexico welcomes travelers from 67 countries without requiring a visa as of August 2024, making it an accessible destination for many. The country's tourism infrastructure is well-developed, offering a range of accommodations from luxurious resorts to charming boutique hotels. Whether you're a history buff, a beach lover, or an adventure seeker, Mexico's diverse offerings ensure an unforgettable experience for every visitor.

The Thriving Tourism Industry

From January to November 2022, the total international tourist arrivals reached 34.7 million, marking an increase of 5.888 million visitors, or 20.9%, compared to the same timeframe in 2021.

Throughout these months, the busiest Mexican airports for international traffic were Cancun, leading with 8,566,976 visitors; followed by Mexico City with 3,805,421; Los Cabos with 1,944,351; Puerto Vallarta with 1,474,808; Guadalajara with 1,044,819; Monterrey with 231,065; Cozumel with 217,317; and Silao with 181,144.

By the end of 2024, it is forecasted that Mexico's gross domestic product (GDP) will achieve a significant milestone, reaching an estimated total of $1,843 billion. This projection underscores the country's ongoing economic development and growth potential.

In addition to the major international hubs, Mexico has several regional airports that cater to domestic flights and international connections. Tijuana International Airport (TIJ), close to the U.S. border, is unique for its Cross Border Xpress terminal, which allows passengers to cross between the U.S. and Mexico. Monterrey International Airport (MTY), Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR), and Cabo San Lucas International Airport (SJD) are also significant, serving popular tourist destinations and regional cities.

In addition to the national carriers, Mexico is served by several regional airlines that cater to specific routes and less-traveled destinations. Interjet Airlines, though it has faced recent challenges, was previously known for its comfortable service and regional connectivity. Calafia Airlines and Aeromar are examples of smaller airlines that provide flights to niche markets, particularly in less accessible parts of the country, such as the Baja California Peninsula and southern regions.

For travelers seeking a more intimate and personalized experience, Mexico offers numerous boutique hotels, especially in cities like Mexico City, Oaxaca, and San Miguel de Allende. Hotel Matilda in San Miguel de Allende, Las Alcobas in Mexico City, and Casa Oaxaca in Oaxaca are examples of boutique properties that blend luxury with local culture. These hotels often feature unique decor, personalized service, and a strong emphasis on showcasing Mexican art, cuisine, and history.

Mexico also provides a range of budget-friendly accommodations, making it accessible to travelers of all kinds. Chains like City Express and One Hotels offer clean, modern rooms at affordable rates, often located near major transportation hubs and tourist attractions. Additionally, hostels and guesthouses are widely available in tourist areas, providing economical options for backpackers and budget-conscious travelers.
