The German Travel Association (DRV) has voiced concerns over the Greek government's recent announcement of new tourism measures, which include increased climate resilience fees for hoteliers and a new levy on cruise passengers. These measures are part of Greece's initiative to foster a sustainable tourism model.
In a letter addressed to Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni, the DRV highlighted its support for Greece's sustainability objectives but expressed apprehension that the abrupt implementation could deter German tourists from visiting. The association is particularly worried about the swift introduction of these fees and levies, noting that the increased costs could make other Eastern Mediterranean destinations more appealing due to the growing price sensitivity among German businesses and travelers.
DRV President Norbert Fiebig, who signed the letter, advocated for a phased introduction of these charges and requested special considerations for 2025 holiday packages that have already been sold. He pointed out that German travel agencies are unable to transfer these sudden cost increases to customers who have prepaid for their vacations, leaving them to absorb the financial impact.
Booking.com has released its annual travel predictions list for 2025, and one trend, "vintage voyaging," has 74% of travelers seeking vintage or second-hand items.
