The City of Desert Hot Springs Recreation Center has officially received the Certified Autism Center (CAC) designation from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). This recognition highlights the facility̢۪s dedication to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for autistic and sensory-sensitive individuals. Achieving this certification required at least 80% of the recreation center̢۪s guest-facing staff to complete specialized training and certification in autism awareness, equipping them with essential skills and knowledge to better serve all visitors.
By earning the CAC designation, the City of Desert Hot Springs Recreation Center contributes to a broader initiative led by Visit Greater Palm Springs to establish the region as a Certified Autism Destination (CAD). This distinction ensures that visitors to the area have access to a network of autism-certified businesses, including recreational facilities, entertainment venues, and accommodations, all committed to providing supportive and accessible experiences.
Since 2001, IBCCES has been a global leader in providing training and certification programs focused on autism, neurodiversity, and cognitive disorders for professionals in healthcare, education, and corporate sectors. The organization has also developed specialized programs for hospitality and recreation industries, ensuring that businesses can offer meaningful accommodations and improve accessibility for neurodivergent individuals. IBCCES remains the only credentialing body offering such comprehensive certification, incorporating expert-led training, insights from autistic self-advocates, and ongoing professional development.
To further assist families, IBCCES launched AutismTravel.com, a free online platform that connects parents with certified autism-friendly destinations and professionals. Every business featured on the site has met the rigorous requirements necessary to earn the Certified Autism Center (CAC) designation, providing peace of mind to travelers seeking supportive and inclusive experiences.
