Malaysia offers toll-free highways for private vehicles this festive season, easing travel costs and congestion, allowing citizens to enjoy seamless holiday journeys.
As Malaysians gear up for the festive season, road trips across the country just got more affordable. The Federal Government has announced a toll exemption for private vehicles on highways nationwide, offering much-needed relief for holiday travelers.
Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi confirmed the initiative in a statement on Saturday, December 21. The toll-free period will begin at December 24. This move aims to enhance the holiday experience for citizens, reported Bernama.
While the exemption applies to all tolled highways, certain border toll plazas, including Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) and Tanjung Kupang in Johor, are excluded from the scheme. This ensures smoother travel across most routes, easing congestion and reducing travel costs for millions of Malaysians.
The Federal Government will shoulder the cost of the toll exemption, amounting to RM38 million (approximately S$11.4 million). Minister Linggi noted that this initiative is particularly meaningful during the holiday season, allowing people to reunite with loved ones and partake in festive celebrations without financial strain.
With the toll-free highways set to kick off the festive cheer, Malaysians can look forward to smoother journeys and memorable moments with their families this holiday season.
