Alstom has successfully completed the installation of the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 1 on Ireland’s Dundalk to Greystones railway line. The project, developed in collaboration with Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail), covers approximately 120 kilometers of track and marks a significant step in improving rail safety and interoperability across the Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART) network and beyond.
As part of the ETCS Level 1 deployment, over 1,200 balises have been installed along the route. These devices transmit critical track data to onboard train equipment, allowing for real-time monitoring and control. The installation also includes 337 signals and more than 450 Micro-Coder lineside electronic units (LEUs), further enhancing operational capabilities while maintaining full compatibility with existing infrastructure.
