Shares in Twitter rose 0.8% in afternoon trading to $40.45 following the reports, compared with the agreed deal price of $54.20 per share. It was also reported on Wednesday that Twitter executives had told employees a shareholder vote on the deal could come by early August as both sides work towards completing the takeover, despite the wrangling over spam accounts.
