You can now preorder these modular jackets designed by Jony Ive. The new product from Apple's former chief design officer is a collaboration between his design company, LoveFrom, and the French fashion brand Moncler. Pieces in the LoveFrom, Moncler collection start at $2,440 for the parka, $2,575 for the field jacket, and $3,115 for the down jacket. The dashing orange poncho doesn't appear to be available yet.
The sartorial statement pieces (Vogue is hailing them as the "season's most functional outerwear") will ship on October 10th. But you might want to be quick about it; most of the white versions are already sold out.
The collection features three shell jackets made from "high-quality recycled nylon" that connect to a core down jacket in white or yellow. The layers also come in white and yellow, and there's the option of a green field jacket, a light blue parka, or the aforementioned orange poncho.

You can mix and match the jackets over the down parka, similar to how Barbour jackets work. However, this is Jony Ive, so there are no normal buttons for attaching your waterproofs to your cozies. Instead, there is an Ive-designed button to connect the layers.
In true Ive style, redesigning the button was a lengthy process. In a profile in Vogue, he said, "We did months and months of fastener research and button research before we even started drawing anything."
The new button dispenses with the classic round button and slot design that's worked perfectly well for centuries. It is, instead, magnetic. The "duo button," as it's called, is a two-part magnet engineered from aluminum, brass, and steel, reports Vogue. It connects any of the base-layer pieces to any of the shells at five different points.
Ive also apparently insisted that each jacket be made from a single piece of material - something of a challenge that Moncler met by sourcing unusually large looms from somewhere in Italy, according to Vogue. This enabled "each garment to be made from one piece of fabric that folds simply together," Moncler said in a press release.
If you'd like to try the items before you buy them, the LoveFrom, Moncler collection will be in select stores around the globe this holiday season, starting on October 10th. Perhaps we've finally found the perfect gift for that "Apple lover who has everything" on your list.
