A U.S. Secret Service agent was injured "following a negligent discharge while handling a service weapon" according to a Secret Service spokesperson.

The protectee was not present when the episode occurred, the statement explained.

"There was no impact to the protectee's movement and they were not present at the time of the incident," Herring noted.

"There were no reported injuries to any other individuals and the special agent is being evaluated at an area hospital in stable condition," Herring added.

Jill Biden has a new book titled "View from the East Wing," which is slated to release later this year.
