Vice President Kamala Harris announced that she has agreed to a second debate with former President Donald Trump, which will be hosted by CNN if formalized. Trump has stated that he has no interest in agreeing to a second debate, as he feels he did more than enough to win the initial, ABC News-hosted debate earlier this month.
CNN's Caitlin Collins reported that Harris has accepted an invitation to debate Trump on October 23. Harris soon confirmed the report in an X post, stating that she is "gladly" accepting the invitation.
The debate would mirror first 2024 presidential debate between Trump and President Biden back in June. The historically early event was hosted by CNN hosts Dana Bash and Jake Tapper, and featured muted microphones for each candidate when the other was speaking.

Trump has pushed back on the idea of agreeing to another debate with CNN, pointing to the fact that Harris ducked a September event that was set to be hosted by Fox News. The Trump Campaign pointed to the fact that they agreed to a debate with a left-leaning, anti-Trump network in calling for Harris to reciprocate, though she ultimately decided to skip the September 10 debate.
In the days following the ABC News debate, Trump stated that it will likely go down as the only debate between he and Harris before Election Day. "When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, 'I WANT A REMATCH.' Polls clearly show that I won the Debate against Comrade Kamala Harris, the Democrats' Radical Left Candidate," the former president wrote in a Truth Social post.
The former president went on to accuse Harris of dodging debates in the past, specifically mentioning her absence at a previous Fox News-hosted event. He used the post to emphasize his unwillingness to engage in any future debates with her. "THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!" Trump wrote in all caps.
Trump has at other times expressed openness to debating Harris, telling reporters in Philadelphia last week that he may be open to another match-up if he is in the "right mood."
When asked about the October 23 date, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung referred CNN to the former president's Truth Social post.
