Hollywood actor George Clooney compared President Biden to one of America's most famous and accomplished historical figures after joining in an effort to oust him just a few weeks ago.
Clooney called on the president to step down in an op-ed titled "I Love Joe Biden. But We Need a New Nominee," in the New York Times. It was published just weeks after Clooney joined Biden, as well as former President Barrack Obama, for a fundraiser in Los Angeles.
Clooney explained that as a "lifelong Democrat," he loves President Biden and believes he has done an excellent job as president. "But the one battle he cannot win is the fight against time. None of us can. It's devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe 'big F-ing deal' Biden of 2010. He wasn't even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate," Clooney wrote.

"Was he tired? Yes. A cold? Maybe. But our party leaders need to stop telling us that 51 million people didn't see what we just saw. We're all so terrified by the prospect of a second Trump term that we've opted to ignore every warning sign. The George Stephanopoulos interview only reinforced what we saw the week before. As Democrats, we collectively hold our breath or turn down the volume whenever we see the president, who we respect, walk off Air Force One or walk back to a mic to answer an unscripted question."
Clooney was reportedly approached by Obama, who "green-lit" the piece and hoped Biden would step aside once he saw that his fundraising sources were drying up.
Now, just weeks after arguing that President Biden is mentally unfit, Clooney has once again changed his tune on the current White House occupant. "The person who should be applauded is the president who did the most selfless thing that anyone's done since George Washington," Clooney told reporters when asked about the essay, according to a report from the Washington Post.
"What should be remembered is the selfless act of someone who you know, it's very hard to let go of power. We know that. We've seen it all around the world," Clooney continued. "And for someone to say, 'I think there's a better way forward.' All the credit goes to him ... And all the rest of it will be long gone and forgotten."
Clooney is far from the only prominent Democrat to equate Joe Biden with America's greatest presidents in recent weeks. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told CBS News that President Biden should be added to Mt. Rushmore in an August 4 interview.
"He was in a good place to make whatever decision, top of his game. Such a consequential President of the United States., a Mount Rushmore kind of President of the United States," Pelosi said when asked about her role in the plot to oust Biden.
