Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich, who served during the Clinton Administration, suggested that X owner Elon Musk should be arrested due to his refusal to censor politically inconvenient content on his platform.

"He may be the richest man in the world. He may own one of the world's most influential social media platforms. But that doesn't mean we're powerless to stop him," Reich wrote in a new column, followed by a list of six measures needed in order to "reign in" the tech CEO.

After Musk purchased Twitter in 2022, which has since been renamed as X, referred to the purchase as "dangerous nonsense" that was geared towards consolidating power rather than preserving free speech.

Reich called on consumers to boycott both Tesla and X in response to Musk's political views. "Regulators around the world should threaten Musk with arrest if he doesn't stop disseminating lies and hate on X," he said.

Reich further suggested that global regulators are already planning an arrest of Musk, citing the recent arrest of Telegram founder Pavel Durov in France.

Drove is facing several charges due to what French officials deemed to be unacceptable content moderation. Prosecutors have accused him of allowing criminal activity on the messaging app in a case that has set off alarm bells among civil liberties advocates across the world.

"In the United States, the Federal Trade Commission should demand that Musk take down lies that are likely to endanger individuals - and if he does not, sue him under Section Five of the FTC Act," Reich argued. "Musk's free-speech rights under the first amendment don't take precedence over the public interest."

The former Clinton official also called on the U.S. government terminate its contracts with Musk's Space X.

"Why is the US government allowing Musk's satellites and rocket launchers to become crucial to the nation's security when he's shown utter disregard for the public interest? Why give Musk more economic power when he repeatedly abuses it and demonstrates contempt for the public good?" he wrote.
